Atlantis Described in Legend
Atlantis was described as an island in the Atlantic Ocean, lying west of the Strait of Gibraltar. It was situated just beyond the Pillars of Hercules. The island was arranged in concentric rings of alternating water and land, with a central plain outside the city featuring canals and a magnificent irrigation system.
The Athenian, Solon, described Atlantis to Plato as a rich island with powerful princes that conquered many lands in the Mediterranean until the Athenians rose to defeat them. The Atlanteans were viewed as wicked and impious and their “island” was swallowed up by the sea as a result of a great Earthquake. However, this story that Solon related to Plato was said to have taken place some 9,000 years before Solon was even born.
If one were departing through the Pillars of Hercules and then following the coast of Africa, one would have found a great river inland that led to what is today called the Richat Structure, or The Eye of the Sahara.
The river is no more but there is evidence that it existed. And if you look at that area of Africa from above, you can see that the entire area has been “washed out” at some time in the distant past. Whether a comet crashed into the Atlantic and caused a major tsunami that washed over the land and then pulled everything back out into the Atlantic or a massive Tectonic event caused one, the evidence of a cataclysm is there.
The mainstream will say that this could not be Atlantis because no structures, statues, or evidence that it was a city, has been found. They prefer to call it “natural”. This is maintaining ignorance. Look at the hurricane that pummeled through North America recently and how the flood waters washed away entire towns. The event that washed over Atlantis would be many more magnitudes greater than that. Stone would crumble and be washed out into the Atlantic. 11 to 12 thousand years later, there would be no evidence of any wood structures at all, especially if they had all washed away.
For me, until better evidence comes along, THIS was Atlantis. It is by far the most probable location and best fit for for the description that was given. The Pyramids of Set in Summal
In the distant lost age for this story, before the time of the ice age even, Egypt was not Egypt. And this takes place before Sumer was a city in the Fertile Crescent. I’m going with a fictional history where Summal is in the place where Egypt is today and at some point in time, the people moved North East and into the fertile crescent, where they settled into Mesopotamia.
The Great Pyramids had been built and some great event took place, perhaps the same event that wiped out Atlantis, and then caused a collapse of the original settlements around the Pyramids. Much later, the Pyramids are rediscovered and the land tamed by those who we know of today as Egyptians.
Also, in this past land, the continents have not yet drifted as far a part as we know them today. This allowed for travel between the continents and even mankind having been torn apart from each other. Call this a creative choice on my part.
Tiwanaku and Ancient South America
Tiwanaku is mentioned as the other ancient advanced city across the vast ocean (Atlantic) but Amahal, in the story, has never been there. The people of Summal know of Tiwananku but for the purposes of the ancient history that Arnon occupies, it is really only a “landing pad and outpost” for the empire in what was in now South America.
We now know, using LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) that South America had an ancient population (Pre-Inca) of millions of people with cities and roads throughout the entire continent. What happened to those people? No one knows. Again, perhaps the same worldwide apocalypse that took out Atlantis affected them as well.
Interestingly, the Amazon Rain Forest was not always a forest. There was once great grasslands. Only 4 of the hundreds of species of trees in the Amazon Rain forest are actually indigenous to the area. That means the entire forest was at sometime “planted”. Knowing this, if anyone tells you that the majority of Oxygen on Earth comes from the Amazon rain forest, you know they are full of it since it wasn’t always there.
I’m speculating that the loss of the great civilization, this ancient empire, went onto become the Incas and various other clans, peoples, and tribes of people that would section off the continent in the future.
The Vimāna
A Vimāna was a mythological flying palace as described in Hindu texts and Sanskrit epics. The meaning of the word means “measuring out” or “traversing”. It is a pyramidal tower built over the central shrine of a temple in India.
For the purposes of the story, the Vimāna is the transport “ship” (or ships) that make trips from Summal to Atlantis to Tiwanaku (all relatively in a straight line of each other).
In my story, the Vimāna is headed for the great Pyramid to refuel. In this case, it will stay in the air near the pyramid and the energy (microwaves) are directed from the Pyramid into the Vimāna.
Pyramids as Power Stations
Mainstream archeology maintains that the pyramids were built as tombs but no bodies were ever found in a pyramid. This is also true of pyramids that were closed off and never plundered. Pyramids were not tombs.
In the case of The great Pyramid of Giza, there is no writing or hieroglyphics in that pyramid. It appears to have had a more functional purpose that could have been as a power conducting facility.
So all of this comes together to form the lost age of an advanced civilization that Arnon is currently wandering through. In Arnon’s first short story (The Spire on the Crag), he was in the North, most likely in what is today England or the EU. All of the more advanced stuff was well South of his location at that point. Africa was not called Africa in the story and instead was called Afrieen. While the people there are referred to tribes of savages, by comparison to the civilization that Arnon arrives at, the North would also be considered to be filled with savages too, though a tad bit more along.
One has to keep in mind that this is a time before The Great Ice Age and that after 12,000+ years, only stone structures and their foundations would be any evidence of a civilization. Even metal would have rusted and be no more. With evidence showing that humanity goes much further back than mainstream archeology wants to allow, I’m fascinated by this pre-civilization. I like to refer to it as a Hyborean Age thanks to Robert E. Howard and his Conan stories that take place in this lost age, but of course, I can’t call it that for my own stories. I’ve also taken a lot of information as relayed by Graham Hancock’s search for an advanced and ancient civilization (2 seasons of which can be found on Netflix) and of course Ancient Aliens. I’m skeptical it was “aliens” but at the same time, Ancient Aliens brings up the evidence that also works for a past advanced civilization. Replace Aliens with Advanced Civilization or People and you have the same valid questions.
I hope you enjoyed this Behind the Writing and a look at what has gone into my thought process for creating the world of Arnon the Wanderer. Keep an eye out because chapter 2 will be coming soon.

This was awesome. I’ve been planning to check out The Pyramids of Set once my schedule frees up from weddings and honeymoons, and now I’m excited to. All the stuff you mentioned is right up my alley and I’m sure I’m going to love it. Great job.
Love the sharing of the background info.
