Best Movie of 2024: Hellboy: The Crooked Man
We finally have a comic book accurate Hellboy flick.
I haven’t liked a new movie in a really, really, really long time… And I REALLY LIKED Hellboy: The Crooked Man.
Summary: Hellboy and a rookie BPRD agent are missing in rural Appalachia after a courier mission goes sideways. They discover a group of people that are being haunted by witches controlled by a local demon called The Crooked Man.
Not only do we finally have a comic book accurate Hellboy (as in the character) but we also have a paranormal horror story that is in the spirit of the comic book. Mike Mignola (the creator of Hellboy) was co-writer on the story so right out of the gates of hell, you know the story will be good.
Look… I really enjoyed the Ron Perlman/ Guillermo Del Toro flicks (Hellboy and Hellboy II The Golden Army) but Hellboy isn’t jokey like that. The David Harbour Hellboy reboot wasn’t as good as the first two flicks… it was okay. Again, he was too loud, obnoxious, and jokey. That’s not the Hellboy of the comic book (which I’ve collected and read over and over for years now). Hellboy is a dark character of few words and some great one liners. He doesn’t really do comedy and Jack Kesy pulls of the best Hellboy to date.
This is also a low budget flick ($20 Million) that ended up running out of money before the title sequence could be made. The director had to create the title sequence with his Photoshop skills. It’s awesome how well it looks and plays. It suits the atmosphere perfectly. If you like Evil Dead, you’re going to love this one. It just goes to show, you don’t have to have a mega budget to make a really good flick if you have a good story and the right actors playing the parts.
With time running out on 2024… I’ve found my movie of the year and watched it with a smile on my face. I honestly thought that I would never see a new movie that I really liked, ever again. I’m thrilled that it’s a Hellboy flick!!!

First time I’m hearing about the movie, so thanks for that! For those unfamiliar with the Hellboy books, The Crooked Man story was drawn by Richard Corben.
This looks good
