The hunt for another Technical Writer position is going to shit. It’s not just this particular field, but the entire job market is pure shit right now. The process for finding something new is more convoluted than the X suppression algorithms and people are getting worn out by it.
For starters… LinkedIn is a shithole. It’s this badge that one is supposed to wear to be “professional” but as near as I can tell, those that use it, and post to it, are generally professional kiss ass artists. Some dude likened his wedding day to B2B practices. How fucking insane is that? And don’t get me started on the fake job listings there. Okay… I’m started, so here you go…
Over 40% of companies have admitted to posting fake job positions to appear as if the company is growing. Then you have the fake job postings that are being done to hold off paying back Covid era loans from the government. As long as the company is hiring, those loan repayments are on hold. It’s going to be 2025 and there are many companies doing this immoral and unethical crap.
This means that people are constantly applying to jobs that don’t exist. Pure vapor positions. Wasting a job hunters time by tailoring their resume, wretched cover letter that some ask for, and research into a company that we might as well label as being corrupt. What a shitshow.
Corpo’s are still out there lying and saying they can’t find qualified people in the US and this is pure BS. They want to hire people outside the US so they don’t have to provide benefits and they can pay them less. Right now, there are a ton of qualified people in the US looking for jobs but these evil fucking Corpo’s put America last.
As for finding a job in the technical writing field… Ageism and Gender seem to be in play here. The hiring managers in this field all appear to be between 25-35 and female. I’m not sure if this is some new shift that happened in the last 5 years but if you are a white male over 35 (God forbid you be pushing 50) these Millennial to Gen Y’s don’t even bother to give you a shot. It’s almost like your experience is a threat to them. I wonder why that is?
It’s a new world out there… One where experience and age are looked down upon. The youngling inmates are running the asylum now and doing a damn hideous job of it. The Corpo’s are celebrated, even with all of their corrupt loop holes and tactics to shit on people. They’ve made brand awareness into a religion to the point where people will defend corruption if they worship at the alter of that brand. All hail Tesla, for Musk is the child of God-King, and we shall pray via the X post for good tidings.
All of this “technology” and getting a job is harder than it was before it existed, hell… should we be surprised that voting takes longer than it did before tech? We’ve made technology into this beast that is the illusion of efficiency. As long as systems are automated the human can devolve back into the monkey and ignore everything happening around them. The machine can continue to grind on. The cogs go round and all is fine with the automated world. The humans be damned.
We need a new process. We need hiring managers, recruiters, and HR people that are not holding worthless gender studies degrees while getting to act as the gatekeepers to employment. We need to realize that LinkedIn is just another shit social media platform and not worth anyone’s time or effort. We need a Corpo enema.
I don’t have the answers to how we accomplish any of this so I’ll end this diatribe by going back to the good stuff from Rat Says that I mentioned in the sub-title…

Thanks for reading On The Road Of Bones.
Excellently stated. If you have knowledge and experience, you’re not a threat to just the HR people hiring managers, but managers in general. This applies to everything. From the tetchiest tech places to the lowest of low Starbucks baristas. Knowledge is a danger to those individuals not a benefit.
Information packed article. Do I rate an opportunity being 74, male with no experience? Maybe I could fool that silly A/I hiring assistant.
..."but these evil fucking Corpo’s put America last."...they are competing with the government to see who can put the most Americans last. Doesn't look too cheery going forward in the job area.
